Summer Project: The Vehicle

The Summer project has been really fun so far, lots of choice, some great options, but what do i choose? It took a lot of thought. I wanted to do something that i'd like to see in a game. somewhere to explore that's not really been done before. After a while I settled on "Rain forest Crash site and Survivor" Probably had something to do with me watching a lot of survival programs recently.
I've had plenty of ideas of what to make of this project, ranging from the kind of crash site, the vehicle, what the survivor character will look like, and the surrounding environment that'll be in the scene.
The first thing that got my mind going was the vehicle, what kind of crash would it be? Mainly i focused on some sort of air vehicle, as its easy to see a crashed air vehicle in the middle of nowhere rather than a land one. As i'm limited to 10,000 tri's a large plane or helicopter isn't an option really, maybe with a larger tri count, or as an extra addition to the project but for now i'm going to do a small plane. A Cessna 182 to be specific. A small 4 person plane that we learnt to fly in air cadets. It should be perfect for just a single survivor with not much to survive.

I got to work on the plane straight away, starting with the basic body shape and working from that. Originally i had each part of the planes as a separate object, the wings, fins, doors etc. I then realized that the central part of the wing are attached to the main body of the plane, and then the wings slot onto the side. so i modified my plane to follow the way a real Cessna is built to maximize realism.

Its pretty much finished apart from the interior, which will add probably another 500-800 tris, giving me a total of about 4,000 for the plane. Leaving me 6,000 for the survivor and the environment. But for now i'm going to leave the unwrap and texturing, just in case i need to simplify it in anyway, thus changing the mesh and therefore the unwrap.
Here's what i have so far.
Obviously when a plane crashes into something like a tree its going to change the integrity of it. So along with possibly simplifying it, ill make it look more damaged before i unwrap etc.
